- The show opens up a strange 1990esque sitcom playing on USA Network "Word Up Wednesday." It is marked with outdated production values like canned laughter and corny jokes. It even features cameos of ALF, a theme song "Imagine a World Gone Insane," and commercials by E Corps.
- The entire sitcom is a lie... from the kidnapped and murdered corporate executive (Tyrell Wellick) to the pleasantries of the Alderson Family road trip.
- Elliot awakes in a hospital, bloodied, in pain, and hooked into pulsing monitoring equipment. Ray is there to see him awake, and explains the relationship of master and slave. "Anyway, Ima quit yappin. Let you rest. Big day's ahead. Work to do."
- FSociety is training Angela to implement the hack, installing the femtocell at the FBI floor. They are not encouraged at her struggles.
- Cisco meets Xun at the library to receive the altered femtocell. When asking for explanations to forward to FSociety, Xun takes unkindly to the request/expectations. He breaks a needle off under Cisco's fingernail, and reminds him he is but a simple foot soldier, not to question why.
- Cisco brings the femtocell to FSociety. Angela recognizes him from the CD hustle, but plays as if she doesn't. She takes the device to carry out her mission.
- Darlene walks into the hotel across from the FBI to the tune of "G'wan G'wan G'wan," wearing a long blonde wig. There, she'll set up a cantenna to link the femtocell's WiFi.
- Angela gets the call from Darlene and infiltrates the FBI floor. A series of close calls draws suspicion to her, but she walks away cleans and ultimately successful.
- Darlene's call to Angela takes place across an app called Signal. It provides end-to-end encryption.
- Ending in a flashback to 1993, young Elliot, with a black eye, is driven by his father Edward. He hints at his illness and his firing from E Corp. But the birth of his computer business is revealed, name given by Elliot: "Mr. Robot."
