- Oddly, this episode departs from the cliff hanger and season's story, in order to address a missing chapter that some may say is long overdue (?). We'll get back to Elliot breaking in to the safe house next week. That is all on hold. This week is entirely about answering the question "What happened to Tyrell after the 5/9 Hack?"
- The scene opens with the FuxSocy python script being executed, beginning to encrypt every file on the E Corp network. The Linus desktop appears to run Gnome. "What is it?" asks Tyrell. "It's happening" replies Elliot.
- Elliot saunters over to the popcorn machine. While Tyrell stares captivated into the computer screen, Elliot fishes out the pistol that Darlene stole from Xander Jones and hid inside the machine. The camera pulls back to show it is Mr Robot who cocks the hammer and points the gun at Tyrell.
- While Tyrell pleas to talk about this, Mr Robot wastes no time to pull the trigger... only for the bullet to jam inside the barrel.
- Upon the failure of the shooting, Tyrell takes it as a sign that they are gods, welcomed in to His Circle. Mr Robot begins to argue, but concedes that Tyrell's kind of crazy may be what's needed, "to protect me from me."
- Irving and two Dark Army thugs drop in on the arcade. The diplomatically direct Tyrell to come with them, and send Elliot to park the SUV at a parking lot at 17th & 6th.
- The title sequence for the week is an homage to "The Shining." A car drives up a long wooded driveway toward a country farmhouse. Credits scroll up vertically, just as in the movie, playing chilling music.
- Irving leads the way inside, carrying bags from Targét. He offers Tyrell a secure means to call his wife, but Tyrell declines, safer for them both. When asked for the gun, Irving replies, "If you wanna be protected, don't leave the property."
- NYPD comes pounding on Elliot's door. Upon his return home from Times Square, days after the night of 5/9 and his reawakening, he came home to watch the fallout of his hack, only to get arrested for his brush with Lenny.
- Grant reviews the arrest for Minister Zhang (Whiterose). Whiterose plots to have him released early, then meets with conspiracy commentary host, Frank Cody. She wants Tyrell Wellick placed in public favor, FSociety to be framed as Iranian, and wants Donald Trump to gain favor as a presidential candidate.
- A Mister Williams shows up as Tyrell wakes, in order to explain where Elliot is. (Oddly, the explanation is never served, for he is there instead to interview and evaluate Tyrell.) He sets a tea kettle on the stove, and begins grilling Tyrell over difficult questions. Did you kill Sharon Knowles? Have you slept with anyone else since marriage? Will you be loyal to me? Do you hate your father? The kettle whistles and Tyrell begins to crack under the pressure. He admits the dark answers to the questions, including that he will not be loyal to the Dark Army. As he's looking to be killed as unsuitable, he adds that he will always be loyal to Elliot. For that, they accept him.
- Tyrell is equipped with a phone, a laptop running Slackware Linux, a VSAT linked to a Dark Army satellite. Finally, Tyrell is told where Elliot is... he places a call to Queensboro Correctional Facility and has the conversation with Elliot in prison (who doubts the reality of the call). Tyrell smashes the phone onto the ground in frustration.
- Eventually, Tyrell gets cabin fever and leaves. (Gossip of his wife's affair further flusters him.) He packs a backpack, and hikes off the property. As he nears a general store (somewhere in NJ) a sheriff's deputy spots and captures him.
- They drive to a rendezvous with FBI SSA Santiago, who shoots and kills the deputy, and returns Tyrell to the farmhouse.
- Tyrell needs to prove himself strong to Joanna. Irving takes this opportunity to encourage him with a "same boat" story of redemption. He promises that in a few weeks they will reunite him with Elliot. But in the next scene, we learn that the 'caring father' story was a fiction, dispelled in the used car lot. Making jiffy-pop with kids as they watch "Big Brother" together is instead a TV night alone. He returns to typing up his novel "Beach Towel. Chapter 4 A Wink Gone Wrong."
- Irving visits Leon in the pen. Elliot got his papers and should be released soon.
- Tyrell packs to leve the farmhouse, and is brought to the closed Confictura warehouse. Irving returns him his un, "for safe keeping." He points out the barrel was jammed, but is now in good repair.
- Tyrell is checked in to the Fükàn hotel.* He insists on looking good for Elliot, so shaves and showers, then puts on his business suit.
- *Fükàn is Chinese for "Overlook," an homage to the hotel in "The Shining."
- Elliot arrives at the taxi waiting outside. There is the usual confusion as neither the driver nor Elliot know where they're going. On cue, Tyrell enters the cab and orders them to "Chambers and Church."
- Returning to almost the present, we see Elliot undergoing surgery to repair his gunshot wound. Angela explains that he sometimes is a different person. As he regains consciousness on the bed, the camera shows that it is actually Mr. Robot who wakes.
